Pranayama with Johanna Heckmann-Mohan

Pranayama, the practice of controlling the breath, lies at the heart of yoga. The ancient sages taught that Prana, the vital force circulating through us, can be cultivated and channelled through a variation of breathing exercises. In the process, the mind and body are calmed, rejuvenated, and uplifted. Pranayama serves as an important bridge between the active practices of yoga and the internal practices that may lead us into deeper states of awareness.
In the Iyengar yoga system Pranayama is introduced to students who have built up a good understanding of asana so they have the strength in the body and ability for concentration demanded by subtle work with the breath. It is important to learn Pranayama from an experienced teacher who can help you develop the physical and mental concentration skills needed and avoid injury. This class is an opportunity to build your understanding and experience of the ‘science of the breath’ with expert guidance. Johanna has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1984 and has extensive experience of teaching Pranayama.
This class is for General Level student who have practised Iyengar Yoga regularly for more than 2 years.
